Our First Fire Drill
Junebugs will practice lining up quietly and exiting the house as quickly and as safely as possible.

Thursday-September 29th
Smoke Science
Junebugs will learn what smoke looks like and why it is dangerous as they safely observe its formation in a mason jar.

Egg Carton Fire Engines
Junebugs will create bright red firetrucks using a variety of materials including paint, egg cartons and popsicle sticks.

Stop, Drop and Roll Drill
Junebugs will practice stopping, dropping and rolling to put out fires on clothing and staying low to escape smoke.

Circle Time Routine
Educational. Social. Playful.

Greeting
Find and sit on your circle time mat.  Greet your friends with the song 'Hello Neighbor!'.  Read Fly High Little Bird.

Morning Stretch
"Point to your nose, reach down to your toes, wiggle your hips, and bend your elbows.  Reach up high to the sky,  reach down low to the floor, stretch to the window, and stretch to the door.  Whisper 'shhhhh' and sit quietly on the floor."

Morning Work
Calendar
Sing the "Seven Days In A Week".  Discuss today's theme and activities.

Weather
Observe the weather through the window and discuss proper clothing using flashcards.

Numbers
Count to 10 on your fingers.  Sing along with 'Ten Little Numbers'.

Letters
Sing the 'ABCs' with instruments.  Rap the 'ABC's' with Elmo.  Listen to 'Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom'.  Color the letter of the day (F is for fire) and glue it into your notebook.

The Fire Engine Book by Tibor Gergely

Morning Songs
'On The Fire Truck'
sung to the tune of Wheels On The Bus

The hose on the truck goes gush, gush, gush
The dog on the truck goes woof, woof, woof
The firemen on the truck say, "WE'RE ON THE WAY!"

We are looking forward to starting your little one's fire safety education!  You can continue our fire safety theme at home with two fun opportunities to support our local firefighters and play on real firetrucks!

This Sunday, October 2, from 8am-12pm, the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department is hosting their monthly Pancake Breakfast.  Cost is $6 per adult, FREE for kids 3 and under.

On Sunday, October 9th from 12-3:30 please join us for a Junebug Field Trip to the AVFD Open House!  This is a free event where our kids can learn more about fire safety, meet the firemen, and ride on the trucks among other things.  We would love to see you all there!  Visit the AVFD website for more details and directions.  *PLEASE NOTE - parking is available at Cedar Lane elementary on Tolomac Road and the AVFD is providing free shuttle service to the station*

Your teachers,
