We're Going to the Zoo!

The Junebug Weekly
Thursday August 18

A Day At The Zoo

The Creative Corner
Lions and Tigers and Bears!  Oh my!

Macaroni Mask Lions
Junebugs will experiment with textures and review animal characteristics as they use glue and corkscrew macaroni noodles to create a lion's mane for their masks.

Marble Masterpiece Zebras
Junebugs will use their fine motor skills as they have tons of fun dipping a marble into black paint and rolling it all around a piece of white paper to design a beautiful zebra.

Handprint Elephants
Junebugs will get their hands dirty by covering them in gray paint and stamping them onto paper.  A couple of google eyes and marker will turn those precious prints into cute little elephants.

Animal Cookie Counting
Junebugs will practice their math skills by estimating the number of animal cookies in the jar.  We will count (and eat!) all of the cookies together to discover the correct answer.

Little Zookeepers
Junebugs will love pretending to be zookeepers as they place plastic zoo animals into their proper habitats (i.e. ice water, sand, grass, trees) in a hands on mini science lesson designed to review animal characteristics and homes.

Monkey Munchies
Junebugs will enjoy a silly monkey-themed snack of sweet monkey bread served with sliced bananas.

Circle Time Routine
Educational. Social. Playful.

Greeting
Find and sit on your circle time mat.  Greet your friends with the song 'Hello Neighbor!'.  Read Fly High Little Bird.

Morning Stretch
"Point to your nose, reach down to your toes, wiggle your hips, and bend your elbows.  Reach up high to the sky,  reach down low to the floor, stretch to the window, and stretch to the door.  Whisper 'shhhhh' and sit quietly on the floor."

Morning Work

Calendar
Sing the 'Days of the Week'.  Discuss today's theme and activities.

Weather
Observe the weather through the window and discuss proper clothing using flashcards.

Numbers
Count to 10 on your fingers.  Sing along with 'Ten Little Numbers'.

Letters
Sing the 'ABCs' with instruments.  Rap the 'ABC's' with Elmo.  Review the letter of the day (Z is for zoo) with a coloring activity.

Morning Stories
I Went To the Zoo from Enchanted Learning
Z is For Zoo a touch and feel book by Priddy Books
Waddle a scanimation book by Rufus Butler Seder

Morning Songs
'Five Little Monkeys
'I Went To The Zoo'
Oh, I went to the zoo, And what did I see?
I saw a great big tiger, Lookin' at me
He went 'ROAAAR, ROAAAR', He went 'ROAAAR, ROAAAR', He went 'ROAAAR, ROAAAR'
And that's what he said to me.
Oh, I went to the zoo, And what did I see?
I saw a monkey, Lookin' at me...

We're so excited for our day at the zoo with your little one.

Your zoo tour guides,
Lindsay and Lindsay
