We're Going Batty!

The Junebug Weekly
October 18th and 20th

We're Going Batty!

The Creative Corner
Nocturnal, Echolocation, Bats

Tuesday-October 18th
Hand Print Bats
After learning about nocturnal animals and some bat facts, Junebugs will use their little hands to make their very own bat paintings.

Sensory Shaving Cream Play
Junebugs will love getting hands on and messy as they enjoy the sensory shaving foam table, complete with nocturnal animals to play with.

Night and Day
Junebugs will learn all about opposites as they focus on the differences between night and day.  They will use their motor skills to cut and glue pictures to make a book of night and day.

Thursday-October 20th
Pumpkin Bats
Junebugs will get a lesson in disguise as they turn mini pumpkins into adorable bats!

To The Bat Cave!
Junebugs will become cave explorers for the day! We will engage in dramatic play and enter a cave (tents and tunnels) in search of bats.

Bat Food
After a mini lesson on the diet of a bat, Junebugs will enjoy fruit kebabs made from some of bats' favorite types of fruits!

Circle Time Routine
Educational. Social. Playful.

Greeting
Find and sit on your circle time mat.  Greet your friends with the song 'Hello Neighbor!'.  Read Fly High Little Bird.

Morning Stretch
"Point to your nose, reach down to your toes, wiggle your hips, and bend your elbows.  Reach up high to the sky,  reach down low to the floor, stretch to the window, and stretch to the door.  Whisper 'shhhhh' and sit quietly on the floor."

Morning Work
Calendar
Sing the "Seven Days In A Week".  Discuss today's theme and activities.

Weather
Observe the weather through the window and discuss proper clothing using flashcards.

Numbers
Count to 10 on your fingers.  Sing along with 'Ten Little Numbers'.

Letters
Sing the 'ABCs' with instruments.  Rap the 'ABC's' with Elmo.  Listen to 'Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom'.  Color the letter of the day (B is for bat) and glue it into your notebook.

Morning Stories
Stellaluna by Jannell Cannon
Bat Book from Enchanted Learning

Morning Songs
Bats Are Sleeping
(tune:  Frere Jacques)
Bats are sleeping.
Bats are sleeping.
Upside down.
Upside down.
Sleeping in the morning sun.
Waiting for the night to come.
Then they'll fly around.
Then they'll fly around.

We're fascinated by bats and we can't wait to share these lessons with your children!

Your teachers,
Lindsay and Lindsay
